Mary Moretti was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Texas Tech cum laude and with Highest Honors in 2006 and magna cum laude from Tech Law School in 2012.
While in law school, Mary earned the CALI and Jurisprudence awards multiple times, which are awarded to the student with the highest or second highest grade in the class. She was the Executive Managing Editor of Tech’s prestigious Estate Planning Law Journal, and competed in Mock Trial and Moot court competitions, developing skill with both oral argument and legal writing.
During her last year of law school, she was a Student Attorney in the Caprock Regional Public Defenders Clinic, representing the indigent against criminal charges and even winning a DWI acquittal in Armstrong County while still a student.
Prior to coming to Hamilton, Hull & Byrd, Mary worked at the Kaufman County Public Defender’s Office. As a public defender, Mary tried to verdict all types of criminal cases, including burglary, drug offenses, forgery, indecency with a child, and aggravated assault.
Since joining the team at Hamilton, Hull & Byrd, she has first chaired and won multiple felony and misdemeanor jury trials, administrative hearings, and pretrial hearings.
Mary believes that providing a zealous defense to every citizen accused is the key to holding the criminal justice system to its promise of justice for all.
